Two Day Rangeland/Pasture Management Training by CSU Extension

Day 1:
How to Identify Rangeland Plants, especially Grasses and Toxic Plants

Day 2:
How to Assess, Inventory, and Set Stocking Rates for a Pasture Based on Plant Composition, Season, Type of Livestock, and Available Forage

When:
Wednesday May 28 and Thursday May 29, 9:30 am to 4:00 pm each day

Cottonwood State Wildlife Area
5 miles north of Brush, CO

Cost:
There is no fee to attend this training.

Agenda:
Day 1 (Wednesday May 28):
Participants will learn how to identify forbs, grasses, shrubs, and trees.  Special attention will be given to the identification and ecology of grasses.  Instruction on how to identify toxic plants will also be given.

Day 2 (Thursday May 29):
Participants will learn how to evaluate a pasture and determine a suitable stocking rate for different types of livestock.  Participants will also calculate available forage and determine pasture size.  It is recommended that participants also attend the training on plant identification the previous day.

This training is 100% outdoors.  Be prepared for inclement weather.  It is recommended that you bring a clipboard and paper to take notes. 

A sandwich lunch will be provided.
